Preparing for Making Tax Digital: What You Need to Know

  3. Transition Process:
    • If your qualifying income exceeds the threshold, HMRC will notify you to commence using Making Tax Digital for Income Tax by the specified date.

    • Signing up for Making Tax Digital for Income Tax becomes imperative, ensuring a seamless transition to the new system.
  4. Sole Traders and Landlords:
    • If you become a sole trader or landlord after 6 April 2026, you won’t be required to adopt Making Tax Digital immediately. However, voluntary participation is an option.
    • Upon submitting your first Self Assessment tax return, HMRC will assess your qualifying income. If it surpasses £30,000, you’ll receive instructions on when to commence using Making Tax Digital.
